Terms of Service

Welcome to Stewbot. By downloading, installing, or using the Stewbot application ("the app"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the app.

1. Description of Service

Stewbot is a cooking assistant application that helps you save recipes from websites, plan meals, manage your pantry, create shopping lists, and get AI-powered step-by-step cooking guidance. The app offers both free and premium subscription tiers with varying levels of functionality. Features include recipe importing, AI chat, pantry photo scanning, meal planning, cooking timers, technique lessons, community recipe sharing, and cooking statistics tracking.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age (or 16 in the European Economic Area) to use Stewbot. By using the app, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian's consent to use the app.

3. Account Registration

To use certain features, you must sign in using Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your account credentials secure. You may choose a username for community features; usernames must be unique and between 3 and 30 characters. We reserve the right to remove or reassign usernames that violate these Terms or are inactive for extended periods.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

Free Tier: Basic recipe saving, cooking guidance, and limited features are available at no cost.

Premium Subscription: Additional features including AI-powered chat, cloud backup, pantry photo scanning, advanced meal planning, technique lessons, "What Can I Make?" suggestions, and the full Stewbot experience are available through a paid subscription.

Billing: Subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store or Google Play Store, depending on your platform. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account at confirmation of purchase.

Auto-Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the same price.

Managing Subscriptions: You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's subscription settings. On iOS, go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions. On Android, go to Google Play Store > Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are provided for partial billing periods.

Free Trials: If offered, free trial periods automatically convert to a paid subscription unless cancelled before the trial ends. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited upon purchasing a subscription.

Price Changes: We reserve the right to change subscription pricing. You will be notified of price changes in advance and given the opportunity to cancel before the new price takes effect.

6. Recipe Content

Stewbot allows you to save recipes from third-party websites. We do not claim ownership of recipes you save. Recipe content is parsed and stored for your personal use only. You are responsible for ensuring your use of saved recipes complies with the original source's terms of use.

Community Sharing: If you share recipes with the Stewbot community, you grant Stewbot a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display and distribute that content within the app. You represent that you have the right to share any content you make public. You may remove shared content at any time, after which it will no longer be displayed to other users.

AI-Generated Content: AI-generated content (such as recipe suggestions, cooking tips, substitutions, technique lessons, and meal recommendations) is provided for informational purposes only. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or inappropriate suggestions. Always use your own judgment when cooking, especially regarding food safety, allergens, dietary restrictions, and nutritional information. Stewbot is not a substitute for professional dietary, medical, or nutritional advice.

7. Camera and Photo Usage

The app requests camera access solely for the pantry photo-scanning feature, which uses AI-powered image recognition to identify food items from your photos. Images are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers after processing. You may revoke camera access at any time through your device settings, though this will disable the photo-scanning feature.

8. Intellectual Property

The Stewbot app, including its design, code, features, AI models, branding, character design, and all associated intellectual property, is owned by Stewbot and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to use Stewbot's trademarks, logos, character designs, or branding beyond normal use of the app.

9. Cloud Backup

If you use the cloud backup feature, your data is stored on our servers hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). While we take reasonable measures to protect your data including encryption in transit, we are not liable for data loss due to server failure, security breaches, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control. We recommend maintaining local copies of important recipes and data.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components.

Cooking and Food Safety: Stewbot provides cooking guidance, recipes, and AI-generated suggestions for informational and entertainment purposes only. We are not responsible for any adverse outcomes resulting from following recipes, cooking suggestions, AI-generated content, or technique lessons, including but not limited to foodborne illness, allergic reactions, injuries, or property damage. Always follow proper food safety practices, verify allergen information independently, and consult relevant health professionals regarding allergies, dietary needs, and nutritional requirements.

AI Accuracy: AI-generated content, including but not limited to recipe suggestions, substitutions, technique explanations, ingredient recognition results, and nutritional estimates, may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. You acknowledge that AI features are tools to assist your cooking, not authoritative sources. You assume full responsibility for verifying any AI-generated information before acting on it.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Stewbot and its developers, officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the app, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, personal injury, property damage, or any damages related to food preparation, cooking, or consumption of food prepared using the app's guidance.

In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you paid for the app or subscription in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Stewbot and its developers, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the app, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any third party's rights, or any content you share through community features.

13. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the app at any time for violation of these Terms, without prior notice. You may terminate your account at any time by deleting your account through the app or by contacting our support team. Upon termination, your right to use the app ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including but not limited to limitations of liability, indemnification, and intellectual property) shall remain in effect.

14. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the app shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction. You agree to waive any right to a jury trial or to participate in a class action lawsuit.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if modification is not possible, severed from these Terms. The remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

16. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Stewbot regarding your use of the app and supersede any prior agreements.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms at any time by posting the updated version on this page. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by updating the effective date. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the app.
